Local Bike Shop Day is the one day a year when independent bike shops across the UK can come together to celebrate their distinctive culture. It's the day for local bike shops to showcase their passion, knowledge and personalised service they offer to their local communities.

Local Bike Shop Day, administered by the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT), is a nationally celebrated event, and with an increasing number of IBDs, cycling organisations and consumers getting involved year-on-year, the day has become an annual favourite for many.

The day has been supported by a substantial number of cycling organisations, including:

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling and Walking (APPGCW), BetterPoints, BikeBiz, Bikebook, BikeIsBest, Butterworth Spengler Cyclesure, British Cycling, Brompton, Citrus Lime, Cycle Sprog, Cycle To Work Day, Cyclescheme, Cycling UK, Cycling Talk Podcast, Cytech, Department for Transport, Frog Bikes, Freewheel, Insync, London e-bike festival, Love to Ride, PaceUp Media, Raleigh UK, Ride UK BMX, Silverfish, Sustrans, The Cycle Show, Total MTB, Transport for London, V12 Retail Finance, Wheels for Wellbeing and ZyroFisher.

It’s not just big cycling names that have got involved with Local Bike Shop Day, a number of MPs have also jumped on their bikes in celebration of the day, and encouraged their constituencies to do the same.

Whilst support from industry organisations, celebrities and MPs over the years has been fantastic, Local Bike Shop Day remains primarily a day for the independent bike dealer, and they have certainly been pulling out all the stops to celebrate!

Local Bike Shop Day Testimonials

said: “Local Bike Shop Day was great for us as it meant we could showcase our extensive products and services, and the skills and experience of our mechanics. To celebrate being a local bike shop, we offered free bike checks, discounted hire, and we also had a spring sale – all of which were very popular. It was a great success all round!”

- Get Cycling Shop Manager Jordan Hargreaves

“The day itself was a huge success, we decorated the shop with flags and set up a marquee in the yard where the free bike checks took place. In addition to our loyal customers we had people who were just passing by but came to join in with the celebrations and have a chat with the mechanics, many of them hadn’t even known we were there previously. We were definitely busier than the average Saturday, which was reflected in our sales, so it’s great to know that all of our hard work promoting the day paid off!”

- Get Cycling CEO Joanne Mahon

“We were amazed by the response and support we had. With over 100 votes it's truly humbling to know how important we are to our local community and we were honoured by the kind words and reviews we received. On the day we offered special promotions on a number of items including clothing and stock bikes with emphasis on reward deals for our regular customers. One customer brought in cakes to give out on the day and a local balloon shop made us some special LBSD and PAC balloons to dress out the shop. We had a great day with lots of fun, cycling tales and advice on how to enjoy your bike.”

- Patrick Healy, Director of Peak Ascent Cycles

"We were blown away by some of the comments our customers posted online for Local Bike Shop Day in support of Inspiral Cycles as their LBS. It was a great focus for our social media posts and they were shared widely. Support for #supportyourlocalbikeshop increased our online profile and has led to new customers discovering our shop."

- Fiona, Gary and the team at Inspiral Cycles in Bishop Auckland, County Durham

"I had one of the best experiences in the Giant store in Liverpool. The team were so passionate and enthusiastic about cycling and the brand and making the time to make sure the bike was right for me. I travelled up from Sheffield to Liverpool to get the bike I wanted and am looking forward to returning in a few weeks for a free service and now to use my vouchers!"

- Jane Atkin, Giant, Liverpool customer and Local Bike Shop Day competition winner

"I always try to support initiatives like Local Bike Shop Day as they help small businesses like mine reach out to customers, both new and old, while being part of a bigger movement. There's never been a more important time to support local, independent shops and so I was keen to use Local Bike Shop Day to remind people of all the benefits of shopping with us, rather than chains or online stores."

- Heather from Saddles and Paddles

"Cycling has consistently been one of the most popular ways of keeping active during lockdown and with gyms and leisure centres now back open and most recreational sport back in action, it is important we keep cycling for leisure, fitness and travel.
Local Bike Shop Day is a great initiative that welcomes everyone, from experienced riders to first-timers, families and children, into the cycling community. This is important as being active has so many benefits and we'd like more families getting active together and establishing healthy habits for a lifetime.
"

- Sally Barker, Strategic Lead - Cycling, Sport England

"Busiest day ever with the highest turnover and many new customers. Local independent bike shops have little voice within national and local news outlets, so this is helping to give IBDs a voice and stay front of mind."

- Better Health Bikes, East London
